Catalan festivals

There are so many celebrations! Chances are you’ll stumble on one during your visit to Barcelona. We did.

Last October we hosted our friend Susan for a trip to Barcelona and Mallorca. We decided to have lunch at Cerveseria Catalana and take a leisurely walk in L’Eixample. As we started our walk, we stumbled upon a long parade down the Passeig de Gracia, with myriad clusters of costumed participants playing music and dancing down the avenue. Turns out we watching the annual Hispanic Heritage Day March.

This National Day of Spain commemorates the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus for Spain on 12 October 1492. Spaniards celebrate their overseas influence and legacy to the world and to the Americas in particular. This festival occurs during the National Hispanic Heritage Month in the U.S., which celebrates the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.

To ensure you don’t miss out on a festival during your visit, I’ll get to work on a calendar dedicated. Stay tuned!
